Here are some of the most amazing reefs in Africa. The topography of the reefs are
stunning with abundant and varied species of fish. The reefs lie in an ecologically
protected area: with Quarter Mile reef offering ragged toothed sharks when permitted
by the Sodwana Parks Board. 2 Mile reef is a large reef offering beautiful coral
and abundant fish life. The topography of this reef is beautiful with various caves.
On reefs such as Stringer and Bikini, nature has some especially rare and stunning
species on offer. 5 Mile reef offers deeper diving, with pelagics. More adventurous
technical diver can view the coelacanth, once thought extinct, at a depth of 100m.
7 mile and 9 mile reefs are a favourite and a treat as these remote reefs can only
be dived when conditions are perfect. If you haven’t dived these reefs then we really
recommend you do so as they are some of the most beautiful in the world.

North of the border offers great diving and warm African weather. Southern Mozambique
offers anything from the busy town of Ponta D’oura with shallow and deep dives available,
many different restaurants or catered facilities available. Deep sea fishing or
whale, dolphin and whale shark viewing trips are also readily available here. Ponta
Molongane offers the same diving destinations as D’Oura with shorter launch time
to most of the reefs. Ponta Mamoli has luxurious wooden cabins, a view of beautiful
sunsets or rugged African coastline from the pool deck. This secluded camp offers
stunning reefs such as Fishbasket and Gspot.

The Umkomaas river mouth offers some wild and interesting launches. Sometimes the
climate conditions make diving at the beautiful Shoal more interesting. There are
pregnant ragged tooth sharks moving up the coast, in winter, and manta rays and
dolphins gracefully swimming by. Diving off the reef offers two wrecks: The
Produce
lies in 30m of water and can be a challenging dive with possible strong currents.
The
Nebo wreck is a wooden vessel, ravaged by the ocean, making it a stunning
dive.

An exquisite dive and this is definitely for the person looking for luxury in an
African Bushcamp. The accommodation at Rocktail is luxurious and unique. The restaurant
is superb and the diving is for the pampered. The launch is an easy one with the
rubber duck anchored behind a natural breakwater, with your gear neatly stowed aboard
by the time you even get your feet wet. Breakfasts are served on the beach as an
extra treat.
Once a year, the very wild coast offers a natural explosion of life, when the Sardine
Run comes through. Every winter, this natural phenomenon brings huge schools and
bait balls of sardines up the coast. This delicacy is followed intensely by pod
of whales, dolphins and sharks. Hundreds of gannets can also be seen dive-bombing
the water from above. When the schools of fish come close enough to the beach, hundreds
of people flock to the beaches to collect their share of fresh fish.
White shark diving in the cool, wreck laden waters of the beautiful Cape. See the
ocean’s apex predator from the safety of a cage or experience a white shark speciality
in open ocean from some of the world’s most experienced and knowledgeable sharkmen.
The waters off Gansbaai offer you the greatest chances of viewing this beautiful
animal breach the waters. Diving is best experienced in the winter months, when
the water is cleaner and warmer.
Diving here offers the best chances of viewing the magnificent whale shark and graceful
manta ray anywhere on the African coastline. The drive from South Africa is a relatively
long one, but there is the alternative of flying into Inhambane followed by a short
trip to the resorts.
